ORGANISATION BACKGROUND.
Kishenyi Co-operative savings and Credit Society Limited was founded in 1983 by a group of 50 farmers in kashekuro parish. The SACCO was registered as a saving and credit cooperative in the year 1983 under the cooperative society's statute in place then. The SACCO was founded to pool together member's resources and extends credit facilities to members and other beneficiaries. Though the SACCO can invest its excess cash in short-term investment such as treasury bills and fixed deposits, the provision of credit facilities takes precedent over any other investment option. The SACCO was registered as a financial cooperative in 1983 by the Registrar of cooperative societies, in the Ministry of trade, Industry and Cooperatives, with Registered Number 4400/RCS. Hence, the SACCO is a legal entity under the cooperative societies Act, Cap 112, of 1991and the Cooperative Societies Regulations of 1992. The SACCO is owned by all members who have fully paid for shares and the overall governing body is the general assembly. However, members ease their work through Board of Directors, Supervisory Board and vetting Committee who are elected at the Annual General Assembly (AGM) by and from the shareholders themselves.
